AGM 2021 - Instructor’s Report

The Instruction team now consists of 3 Longfei Accredited Instructors - John, Mark and Michele - supported by David, BCCMA level 2 Coach, and Heather, a “retired” instructor. We would like to thank the hard work of the committee, and all our members who helped us to keep things going through the COVID-related difficulties of the past months.

Despite the problems, the more advanced members have now gained a basic understanding of the Sun style, 38 step form and we hope to build on this for the rest of this year.

Since regaining use of our usual venues we have had a lot of interest from people wishing to take up Tai Chi. Our Tuesday evening, beginners class has enjoyed near capacity attendances, but there have been significantly fewer interested in the Wednesday morning classes.

Michele has arranged for all instructors/coaches to gain a First Aid qualification in line with BCCMA rules. DPS checks are also required and will be sorted out in the near future.

Mark and John attended the Longfei Summer camp in July and covered, and attended refresher sessions on the 24 step and the Sun 38 step Tai Chi forms. Daoyin forms were also covered, including an introduction to the classic “Yi Jin Jing”, muscle change classic. Mark also did a refresher on a Tai Chi Fan form, along with some partner exercises.

Suggested Proposals..

1. Suggest that no further beginners are accepted on Tuesdays until the new year, when we traditionally have a lot of interested parties getting in touch. Maximum attendance numbers may need to be reviewed. We could perhaps publish something in advance of starting Tai Chi in the new year, encouraging new members for Wednesday mornings as well as Tuesday evenings.

2. That 2022 should focus on consolidating existing practice, rather than introducing any new Tai Chi forms. This to include refresher sessions, for the more experienced members on the 32 Sword, and the 88 Step form.

3. That the reinstatement of a Summer Seminar should be considered - and that suggestions be made re the subject matter. We should, perhaps, also consider a Tai Chi/Qigong day event.
